Turkish Defence Firms Gather Interests, Bag Major Contracts In Indonesia

Our Bureau - : Nov 4, 2022 - : 4:58 am

The Indo Defence 2022 expo marked a new achievement for Turkish defence firms. With one of the largest delegations in one of the largest defence expos in Southeast Asia, Turkish companies attracted serious interest and have bagged numerous major contracts to provide the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) with advanced equipment from anti-drone systems to patrol boats and more.

Havelsan is reported to have signed contracts to provide various Indonesian Navy ships with the company’s ADVENT Combat Management System (CMS). TAIS shipyard has also signed a contract to build two 65-meter patrol boats for the Indonesian Navy while Boğaziçi Defence will supply the Indonesian Army with its anti-drone system.
Baykar is also in talks with the Indonesian government for its Akinci and Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV). While no further details have yet to emerge regarding the talks, it is already known for some time that the company’s drones have attracted the attention of the Indonesian military looking to acquire more advanced UCAV for its Air Force.

While the FNSS-Pindad collaboration to produce 18 Harimau tanks has yet to see additional orders from the Indonesian Army, the Turkish company is currently actively offering its Zaha marine assault vehicle (MAV) to the Indonesian Marine Corps. The company has already signed a cooperation agreement with the Indonesian state-owned enterprise to jointly develop and produce the amphibious armored vehicle to better suit the requirements of the Indonesian Navy and its Marine Corps. Other contracts and MoUs between Turkish defence companies and their Indonesian counterpart have also been signed at the ongoing show.
