The PLA Navy’s (PLAN) newest Type 055 guided-missile destroyer Xianyang (Hull Number 108) recently departed from a naval port of the PLA Southern Theater Command to carry out combat training missions. The destroyer Xianyang is China’s latest Type 055 destroyer and was commissioned into the PLAN in March 2023. The new warship will be part of the PLAN’s aircraft carrier task force. The PLAN’s first 10,000 ton Type 055 guided-missile destroyer Nanchang was officially commissioned into service in January 2020 and over the past three years, the Type 055 family has been expanding. So far, the Chinese PLA Navy has officially commissioned eight Type 055 guided-missile destroyers, namely: the Nanchang (Hull 101), Lhasa (Hull 102), Anshan (Hull 103), Wuxi (Hull 104), Dalian (Hull 105), Yan’an (Hull106), Zunyi (Hull 107), and Xianyang (Hull 108). The Type 055 destroyer has a 130mm main gun, vertical launch missile systems and torpedoes amongst its weapon systems.

The warships can coordinate with surface and air combat forces to carry out coordinated detection, command, and countermeasure tasks, with stronger information processing
ability and a wider range of means to be used, as well as optimal resources and performance
