Our Bureau - : May 24, 2023 - : 4:25 am

Turkish company STM is eyeing opportunities in Southeast Asia. The company is showcasing a range of products and capabilities at the ongoing event. They include Turkey’s first national corvette project, MİLGEM Ada Class, the Turkey’s first national frigate project, the İ Class Frigate, the Navy Fleet Tanker Project (PNFT) being built for the Pakistan Navy, Türkiye’s first small-sized national submarine project, STM500, STM-MPAC Multi-Purpose Attack Craft, and the Coast Guard Ship CG-3100.

According to Özgür Güleryüz, STM General Manager, the company has a presence in more than 20 countries, from South America to the Far East. “Our intention is not only to showcase our products to the Asia-Pacific region. We are also seeking to establish new collaborations in the market with a focus on the naval platform segment. We continue to express our willingness to transfer technologies to the region, and to Malaysia in particular, with a view to establishing projects that will develop domestic industries and the region as a whole, thus contributing to the long friendly alliance and friendship of Türkiye and Malaysia.”

STM has many ongoing projects in its kitty. In April this year, the Turkish Defence Agency (SSB) held a signing ceremony for the construction of three remaining I-class (Istanbul-class) frigates for the Turkish Navy. The frigates will be built by a partnership involving STM and TAIS Shipyards. The frigates are the 6th, 7th, and 8th ships of the MILGEM project.

STM is one of the eighteen Turkish defense industry companies participating in the ongoing event under the aegis of the Turkish Republic Presidency Defense Industry Presidency (SSB) and Turkish Defense and Aerospace Industry Exporters’ Association (SSI). Among the other companies exhibiting at the event are Aselsan, Asfat, Dearsan, Havelsan, Koc Defense, Kale Kalip, Meteksan, and Roketsan. Meteksan, which is attending the event for the first time, is exhibiting the Yakamos 2020 Hull Mounted Sonar System, Ulaq Unmanned Surface Vehicle Family, MILSAR SAR/MTI Radar, Nazar Laser Electronic Warfare System, Pelikan RF Guided Missile Simulator, Submarine Sonar Systems, and Naval Training Simulators.
