Pratt & Whitney, a business under RTX, has been chosen by Cebu Pacific Air (Cebu Pacific) to supply GTF engines for an additional 10 A321neo and five A320neo aircraft. In addition to the engines, the company will provide GTF engine maintenance services through an EngineWise Comprehensive service agreement.
“Pratt & Whitney has been providing GTF power to Cebu Pacific since 2019,” said Rick Deurloo, president of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney during the Singapore Airshow 2024. “With deliveries for this most recent order starting in 2025, the GTF engine will provide even more fuel and carbon emissions savings.”
“We are expanding our route offerings to passengers while realizing the benefits of reduced operating costs,” noted Michael B. Szucs, Chief Executive Officer of Cebu Pacific. “Lower operating costs play a crucial role in our growth strategy, and the significant improvements in fuel efficiency align with our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.”
Currently, Cebu Pacific operates 33 GTF-powered A320neo family aircraft. Before adopting GTF power, Pratt & Whitney supplied JT8D engines for the airline’s DC-9 aircraft, showcasing the longstanding relationship between both companies dating back to the 1990s.
The GTF engine, featuring Collins Aerospace nacelle and engine accessories, promises increased fuel efficiency and sustainability advantages for single-aisle aircraft. The engine also serves as the foundation for future advancements in the company’s propulsion technologies.
