Our Bureau - : Mar 4, 2024 - : 8:04 pm

One of the highlights of the ongoing show, the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC), has grown immensely in stature since it was first launched at the inaugural edition of the event. Taking place tomorrow in the backdrop of myriad modern-day naval security challenges, the conference brings together renowned academics, security experts, and industry experts from around the world to discuss the latest regional and international trends in maritime defence and security at the strategic and operational levels.

Over the years, the conference has evolved into one of the main features of the biennial event and played a major role in DIMDEX earning a reputation for knowledge exchange at the highest level. During previous editions, deliberations on the latest regional and international trends in maritime defence and security by an international cohort of policymakers, defence officials, and academics, have laid the foundation for collaboration and firming up policies that have contributed to making the maritime security and defence sector safer. During the previous edition of the event, the conference’s theme – “Resilience in the Maritime Domain – Confronting Asymmetric Threats” – discussed one of the most pressing challenges in the maritime domain.

Talking about this year’s conference, Staff Major General (Doctor / Air) Rashid Hamad Al-Nuaimi, Commander of the Strategic Studies Center of the Qatar Armed Forces, said: “The Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) is themed ‘Economic Growth Prospects in Light of Security Challenges and Their Global Impact.’ This event brings together thought leaders and military commanders to address today’s global challenges and threats, fostering dialogue on the latest maritime and global security issues and their economic implications.”

Staff Brigadier (Sea) Abdulbaqi Al-Ansari, Chairman of the Organising Committee of DIMDEX 2024, is among those looking forward to the conference tomorrow. “Under the slogan “Igniting the Future of Maritime Security and Beyond,” this edition recognizes the critical importance of cross-sector integration and cooperation for the global future of security, peace, and prosperity, extending beyond maritime defence to encompass vital additional defence sectors,” he said. “In addition to the main exhibition, we are honored to hold this year’s MENC conference in partnership with the Centre of Strategic Studies at the Qatar Armed Forces, and have visits by high-profile official delegations, in addition to the display of visiting warships at Hamad Port.”
