Barzan Holdings Signs MoUs with QAF, Poongsan

Barzan Holdings and the Qatar Armed Forces (QAF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the company to modernise and provide repair support for up to 54 VABs.

According to the MoU, the services provided by Barzan Holdings will include repairs, renovation work, replacement of parts, reconfiguration and repainting of the vehicles.

According to another MoU signed between QAF and Barzan Holdings, the company will provide the QAF with services covering a “wide range of requirements and activities, including but not limited to equipment and parts supply, safety gear supply, the provision of IT and communication solutions, consultancy and operational/administrative services.”

The MoUs were signed by Brigadier Nasser Ahmed Al-Hammadi, QAF Logistics and Supply Authority, and Anzan Al-Naimi, Barzan Holdings Chief Strategic Capability Officer.

Later in the day, South Korean ammunition maker Poongsan signed a MoU with Barood Ammunition Factory, a Barzan Holdings entity, for supplying ammunition to Qatar. The MoU includes a provision for cooperation between the two parties in the field of technology. In addition to supplying ammunition, Poongsan is also expected to transfer technology for Barzan Holdings to facilitate local production of ammunition.

According to Clark Park, Poongsan’s Executive Managing Director, Defence Products Export Division, Poongsan also signed a supply agreement with Barer Holding, another Barzan Holdings company, for 600 million 5.56 mm rounds. The agreement is worth US$171 million. Barer will deliver the ammunition to Indonesia.
