The Spanish government has awarded Rheinmetall a contract worth approximately €208 million to supply 94,200 155mm rounds. Rheinmetall is scheduled to deliver the artillery rounds to the Spanish army between the end of 2024 and the end of 2025, with an option for a two-year extension.
This agreement represents the second framework contract between Rheinmetall and the Spanish army, showcasing the company’s reliable partnership in supplying critical products.
The ER02A1 high-explosive (HE) projectiles included in the order possess impressive capabilities, with a maximum range of 30 kilometres in the boat-tail (BT) variant and nearly 40 kilometres in the base-bleed (BB) variant, thanks to a special device that enhances trajectory efficiency.
Rheinmetall reinforces its role in European ammunition development and production through recent contracts in the 155mm artillery ammunition sector. Framework agreements with various NATO member states further guarantee a steady supply of artillery ammunition.
Furthermore, Rheinmetall’s expansion initiatives include a groundbreaking ceremony for a new plant in Unterlüß, Lower Saxony, attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on 12 February 2024. This facility will manufacture explosives, rocket artillery components, and artillery ammunition. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding signed with a Ukrainian partner company on 18 February 2024 lays the groundwork for future artillery ammunition production in Ukraine.
