Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Defence Industry Agency of Türkiye
We are working hard with all of our stakeholders in our ecosystem to develop our country’s defence industry with indigenous and national systems and technologies. Clusters play an important role in these efforts. We consider our clusters as an important institutional mechanism that enables communication between actors in the sector, and we support clusters focused on the defence industry in line with our fully independent defence industry targets. Through Defence Industry Clusters, we aim to create cooperation and unity of power in our sector, increase the competitiveness of member companies, and create an important synergy by encouraging domestic and national production.
Established with the mission of improving the technological and sectoral competencies of its members and creating a strong ecosystem by supporting cooperation, SAHA İstanbul Defence and Aerospace Cluster is the largest industrial cluster in Türkiye and Europe. SAHA Istanbul, which carries out its activities with the aim of providing production capabilities that are not available in our country, ensuring that our universities and industry work in sync, and providing collective support to the search for foreign markets, provides great added value to our defence industry.
SAHA EXPO, which has been organised by SAHA Istanbul since 2018, grew by 50% at the square meter, 112% at the exhibitor level, and 226% at the visitor level in the last exhibition in 2022 compared to the previous one. In parallel with the growing rates, we expect more than 500 official and commercial delegations and more than 150,000 visitors this year in the exhibition area, which has been increased to 90,000 square metres for more than 1,200 companies. The cyber security and artificial intelligence pavilions and public participation days, which will be opened for the first time this year, will support the further strengthening of the event. The high-level meetings to be held will lead to new formations and unions, and the new agreements to be signed will reinforce our leverage role in the economy.
SAHA EXPO 2024 is an important platform where main platform manufacturers, suppliers and companies that produce for the defence, maritime, aviation and space industries, and companies that want to take part as suppliers in these sectors come together. The event, which showcases the domestic production potential of our country, will also make significant contributions to the National Technology Move.
I hope that SAHA EXPO 2024 will be completed successfully on behalf of our country and our industry, I wish all participants to have a productive exhibition, and I congratulate all stakeholders who contributed to the organisation, especially SAHA Istanbul Defence and Aerospace Cluster.
We are excited about SAHA EXPO 2024, one of the brand events of our country. We look forward to meetings with many international delegations.
