Saver Advanced Defence Technologies, a subsidiary of the Turkish firm Ermaksan Innovative Technologies is showcasing its Thunderbolt 40/70 T Naval Gun and Thunderbolt 40/70 SB Naval Gun at the ongoing show. Speaking to Daily News, Hakan CEKI, International Sales Executive at Ermaksan Innovative Technologies said this was the first time that both naval artillery weapons are being displayed at SAHA Expo. He said that one Thunderbolt 40/70 T Naval Gun had already been delivered to the Turkish Navy and two more had been supplied to Izmir Shipyard.

The naval artillery systems are indigenously developed and CEKI said they will be available for the export market in 2025. These naval artillery guns are expected to be replacements for Oto Melara naval artillery currently in use with the Turkish Navy.

The Thunderbolt 40/70 T Naval Gun can accommodate different ammunition types and can be loaded with a maximum of 736 rounds. Each barrel can fire 300 rounds per minute, for a total of 600 rounds per minute. In case of any failure or stoppage in one of the 40 mm barrels, the other barrel can continue firing. The gun cupola is made of composite material and has a low Radar Cross Section (RCS). The total weigh of the weapon system is 7,320 kg.

The Thunderbolt 40/70 SB Naval Gun deck-based ship gun can also be modified for land-based applications. The ammunition is placed in the magazine mounted on the gun. It can be loaded with different ammunition types, with a maximum of 80 rounds. It can fire 300 rounds per minute per barrel.

The weapon turret features low radar cross section. It can be easily integrated into a warships existing radar and provides a new indigenously developed alternative for low-tonnage boats and Coast Guard ships. The Thunderbolt 40/70 SB Naval Gun can engage targets out to distances of 12.5 miles and the barrel generates a recoil of 27,000 NP. The total weigh of the weapon system is 2,530 kg.
