TUSAS Engine Industries (TEI), Turkiye’s leading aviation engine company, is showcasing its growing portfolio of engines at the ongoing SAHA Expo. On display are, Turkiye’s first national helicopter engine TEI-TS1400, Turkiye’s first national turbodiesel aviation engine TEI-PD170, Turkiye’s first aircraft engine TEI-TF6000 and Turkiye’s most powerful turbofan engine TEI-TF10000. The TEI-PD170 holds various records for its its altitude capability and flight endurance.

Speaking to Daily News, a company official said the products on display, demonstrate Turkey’s current state in the field of aviation engines. The engine maker is also evaluating new cooperation opportunities by offering its services and products to the global aviation sector. TEI also entered into an important cooperation agreement with the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and Electricity Generation Inc. (EÜAŞ) at the show. With this signed agreement, the incidental maintenance, periodic maintenance-repair, modifications and material supply of gas and steam turbines in the EÜAŞ inventory will be provided by TEI.

TEI’s CEO Prof. Dr. Mahmut F. Akşit said, “In 2007-2008, Turkey’s first nickel superalloy turbine blade was developed in cooperation with Sabancı University, TÜBİTAK MAM and EÜAŞ; the first blade produced was put into operation at the power plant in Ambarlı. This blade has reached a working time of over 12,000 hours and is still active. This project, which started in the energy sector, was later expanded by TEI with the development of turbine blades used in aviation engines. Now, with the support of our Presidency of Defense Industries, we will transfer this technology, which we have taken one step further, back to the energy sector. Energy independence is a very strategic issue and thanks to this project, we will have made significant progress in this area. I would like to thank all institutions and employees who contributed to this exemplary project.”

Earlier this year in July, Turkish Aerospace Industries, TEI and GE Aerospace had also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to expand cooperation for Advanced Jet Training Aircraft Program HÜRJET. TEI will evaluate and collaborate on the integration of GE Aerospace’s F404 engine into new HÜRJET aircraft versions. Thanks to the previous cooperation between the three companies, the F404 engine has been successfully incorporated into the Turkish Air Force’s HÜRJET trainer jet, which is currently in the qualification phase. The second prototype aircraft is due to make its maiden flight before the end of the month.

In March, this year, TEI became the first aviation engine company in Turkey to receive design organization approval. TEI successfully completed the processes of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) and received the “Design Organization Approval” (TOO) required for the type certification of domestic and national aviation engines. TEI will now be able to carry out the certification of domestically and nationally developed engines within the scope of this authority. TEI has also received the Part 145 Maintenance Organization Approval from EASA (European Civil Aviation Agency) for the parts maintenance service it has been providing for TP400 engines used in A400M military cargo aircraft since 2018. TEI was established in 1985 between GE Aerospace and Turkish Aerospace Industries, as a joint venture company.
