Roketsan Presents Levent Missile-Based CIWS

Our Bureau - : Oct 26, 2024 - : 5:42 am

Roketsan is showcasing its new Levent Missile Based Close-In Weapon System at the ongoing expo. This is the first time that a full-size model of the Naval missile-based CIWS is on display at SAHA Expo.

The Levent naval CIWS was first unveiled at IDEF 23 and was successfully test fired for the first time earlier this month.

Following the successful test fire, Roketsan posted on X that the Levent will be the backbone of close air defence on Turkish surface platforms. It will be able to destroy helicopters, surface cruise missiles, aircraft and Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (UCAV). The missile has a range of 11 km and weighs 75 kg. Missile guidance is via an imaging IR seekers with passive radio frequency sensor. The missile carries a 10 kg fragmentation warhead with proximity sensor.

The main mission of the missile-based CIWS is to provide defence against anti-ship missiles attacking at low-altitudes (Sea skimmer), up to high altitudes (high-divers) with subsonic to supersonic speeds and other airborne threats such as UAVs, hovering helicopters, air to ground missiles with 360 degree engagement range by radar and EOS.

The Levent Missile Based Close-In Weapon System is a short range, all-weather surface-to-air missile system that performs target acquisition, target trac, command and control, communication, target evaluation, weapon allocation, target engagement and target interception functions.
