Our Bureau - : Jan 14, 2025 - : 10:57 pm

OAG, a data platform for the global travel industry, has announced its 2024 rankings of the busiest airports worldwide.

Tokyo Haneda (HND) retains its position as the third busiest airport globally, with a 4.8% year-on-year growth in seat capacity, reaching 55.2 million seats. It is joined in the Top 10 by Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), which holds the seventh spot, and Shanghai Pudong (PVG), now in ninth place after a significant rise from fifteenth. Shanghai’s growth, with a 29% increase in seat capacity, makes it the fastest-growing airport in the global Top 10.

Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) continues to hold the title of the world’s busiest airport, with 62.7 million seats, followed by Dubai International Airport (DXB) in second and London Heathrow (LHR) in fourth.

In terms of international seat capacity, Seoul Incheon (ICN) leads Asia Pacific airports, handling 41.6 million international seats, moving up from seventh place in 2023 to third in 2024. Singapore Changi (SIN) follows closely with 41.5 million seats, while Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) takes the fifth position with 34.6 million seats, reflecting a 40% growth year-on-year. Both airports remain vital hubs for regional and global connectivity.

Mayur Patel, Head of Asia Pacific at OAG, commented on the results: “Our latest rankings confirm the strength of the Asian market recovery through 2024, with Shanghai Pudong the fastest growing amongst the top ten entrants and Guangzhou Baiyun International entering the list for the first time. The strength of hubs like Seoul Incheon, Singapore Changi, and Hong Kong highlights the region’s critical role in global connectivity and catering to evolving traveler demands.”
