Farnborough 2022 Is Expected To Be The Biggest Ever

Our Bureau - : Jul 18, 2022 - : 2:11 am

The 2022 Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) is expected to be the largest ever edition of the biennial airshow. The event returns after four years after the 2020 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Initial signs are encouraging with packed exhibitor halls and several path-breaking aircraft and aviation technologies on display. Conspicuous by their absence at the event are companies from Russia, with the organizers announcing in March, following Russia’s aggression on Ukraine, that they had banned companies from the country from participating in the event.

Among the products and capabilities on show at the event are a wide range of all-electric vertical-takeoff-landing (eVTOL) air taxis. They range from Boeing’s joint venture Wisk Aero, which is displaying its all-electric vertical-takeoff-landing (eVTOL) “Cora” development vehicle for the first time in Europe, to Embraer’s ‘Eve’ eVTOL, which has attracted Letters of Intent (LoI) from 1950 potential customers, and Airbus’ CityAirbus NextGen eVTOL and the VSR700 multi-mission naval Unmanned Aerial System (UAS). On the eve of the event, Eve unveiled the interior layout of its eVTOL and disclosed a design change.

The Airshow is expected to generate record orders for commercial aviation manufacturers. At the end of the 2018 edition, commercial aircraft orders announced at the show were valued at USD154 billion. Boeing’s 777-9 and 737-10, which are the newest and largest members of their respective jetliner families, are making their UK debut. The company’s 777-9 flew non-stop from Boeing field to Farnborough for the event. Airbus has an A350-900 belonging to ITA and an airBaltic A220-300 on static display, in addition to having its A350-900 MSN002 flight-test aircraft taking part in the daily flying display.
