747-8 performance improvement undergoing certification testing

A Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental has completed its first test flight with a package of performance improvements aimed at upping fuel efficiency.

The performance improvement package includes modifications to the GEnx-2B engines and flight management computer software, and is expected to result in an aircraft that is 1.8% more efficient.

“It was a great flight and the engines performed as expected,” said Boeing Flight Test and Evaluation Captain Kirk Vining.
