Air Astana to Boost Flights Between Kazakhstan and China

Our Bureau - : Jul 1, 2024 - : 7:26 pm

Air Astana is set to increase its flight services between Kazakhstan and China, following new agreements from the China-Central Asia Aviation Co-operation group meeting held in Xi’an from 18th to 20th June 2024.

Kazakhstan’s designated carriers have been approved to operate up to 52 passenger flights per week this summer, with the number rising to 62 flights per week starting from the summer of 2025. Kazakh airlines can now add Guangzhou, a significant commercial hub and China’s third-largest city, to their destinations. Additionally, they are allowed to operate unlimited flights to Sanya, Haikou, and Qionghai on Hainan Island using fifth, sixth, and seventh freedom rights.

Kazakhstan is among a few countries, alongside the United States and several European nations, whose carriers can operate flights to China using fifth freedom rights. Kazakh airlines have also received clearance to run cargo flights to China without restrictions on quantity and direction.

Currently, Air Astana provides daily flights from Almaty to Beijing, thrice-weekly flights from Astana to Beijing, and five weekly flights from Almaty to Urumqi in western China.
