AirAsia Indonesia, a subsidiary of the Malaysian multinational low-cost airline AirAsia, reopened its Bali-Perth route on Sunday (15 May) after being suspended for more than two years due to the pandemic.

“The last two years have certainly not been easy for the aviation industry to pass, but now things have started to return to normal,” said the President Director of AirAsia Indonesia, Veranita Yosephine Sinaga, in the company’s press release. “We are very pleased to be able to fly back to Australia and welcome our customers again on this Bali-Perth route, which had previously been suspended since March 2020.” She added.

She further stated that AirAsia Indonesia is hoping to, “[…] gradually increase the frequency of our flights on this route to the initial frequency before the pandemic in the hope that we can serve more of our customers in Australia who can’t wait to vacation in Bali.”

The reopening of AirAsia Indonesia’s Bali-Perth route was marked by a flight from the Indonesian province’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (IATA: DPS) to Australia’s Perth Airport (IATA: PER) carrying 88 passengers. The flight coded QZ536 departed Bali at 3:50 PM WITA (UTC +8) and arrived at Perth at 7:26 PM AWST (UTC +8) for a total duration of 3 hours and 36 minutes.

The same-day return flight coded QZ537 carrying 142 passengers departed Perth Airport at 8:10 PM AWST and arrived at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport at 11:50 PM WITA for a total duration of 3 hours and 40 minutes.

AirAsia Indonesia’s Bali-Perth route is served by the airline’s Airbus A320 aircraft with 180 passenger capacity.
