AirAsia Opens New Route to Ahmedabad, India

AirAsia, the Malaysia-based multinational low-cost airline, will fly a new route connecting Kuala Lumpur to Ahmedabad, India starting May 1, 2024. This marks the airline’s eleventh route between Malaysia and India as part of its route expansion plan this year.

“When we launched our very first flight into India in 2008, our vision and mission had always been to enhance affordable connectivity between our two nations,” said AirAsia Aviation Group CEO Bo Lingam on Wednesday (Jan. 17). Both Malaysia and India have plenty of untapped tourism potential and it’s been amazing to see how travel has boomed in both countries in the last decade,” he added.

The airline’s expansion in India is in line with the Malaysian government policy allowing visa-free entry for up to 30 days for Indian nationals, announced in December last year.

With a frequency of four times a week starting in May, AirAsia’s flight AK55 is scheduled to depart Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) at 20:00 (UTC +8). It will arrive at Ahmedabad Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) at 22:40 (UTC +5:30). The return flight designated as AK54, will depart Ahmedabad at 23:15 to land in Kuala Lumpur at 07:15.

While no specific type of aircraft has been mentioned, AirAsia’s other flights to India are using the Airbus A320 series. Likely, the new Kuala Lumpur-Ahmedabad route will also use the same series of aircraft.
