Airbus has announced the launch of the Pléiades Neo Next programme, aimed at bolstering its high-resolution Earth observation satellite constellation, on Monday (Apr. 29). The initiative, set to introduce new satellite assets and capabilities, including enhanced native resolution, marks a significant stride in the company’s commitment to advancing geospatial technologies.
“The Pléiades Neo Next programme builds on the success of our existing Pléiades Neo constellation which serves government and commercial customers around the world,” said Karen Florschütz, Executive Vice President Connected Intelligence at Airbus Defence and Space. “This new programme will further enhance our standard of excellence in terms of quality, performance, and reliability to deliver images as well as geo-intelligence services and applications.”
Funded, manufactured, and operated by Airbus Defence and Space, the programme aims to cater to a diverse range of sectors, including defence and intelligence, agriculture, environment, maritime, disaster response, mapping, location-based services, civil engineering, urban planning, and utilities.
Users will retain the capability to directly task Airbus satellites shortly before satellite overpasses of the desired area. Image data will be swiftly delivered through the customer’s Direct Receiving Stations (DRS) or the OneAtlas digital platform, facilitating mission-critical applications.
Collaboratively, the Pléiades Neo and Pléiades Neo Next satellites will offer increased revisit rates worldwide, up to several times daily, coupled with superior spatial resolution and geolocation accuracy. Further advancements in the Pléiades Neo Next programme will enhance the ground segment, DRS, and OneAtlas platform, streamlining imagery requests and optimizing response times.
Through the programme, Airbus reaffirms its commitment to leading-edge Earth observation capabilities and services. The Airbus fleet encompasses optical and radar satellite constellations, ensuring a diverse array of complementary services and applications, including various resolutions and all-weather capabilities. Concurrently, Airbus is exploring new capabilities leveraging stratospheric platforms.
