Airbus Recognizes EAM for “ab initio” Pilot Programs

: Apr 27, 2019 - : 2:04 am

During the Famex Airshow 2019 in Santa Lucía, Airbus recognized Escuela de Aviación México (EAM) for their collaboration over the past 10 years in facilitating ab initio pilot programs for fixed and rotatory wing.

Ricardo Capilla, Head of Country for Airbus in Mexico, presented a commemorative plaque to Alfredo Velázquez, General Director of EAM.

As part of the company´s commitment to improve flight safety, Airbus has developed multiple ab initio programs. “Ab initio” is a Latin term that in aviation means “from the beginning” or taking someone from the start of pilot training to becoming a certified pilot ready to fly.

In 2018, the Airbus Pilot Cadet Training Programme was created for aspiring commercial aircraft pilots in Mexico with EAM and in collaboration with the French-based National School of Civil Aviation (ENAC). With the Pilot Cadet Training Programme, once cadets complete their initial training with EAM, they could continue their training to become fully qualified A320 pilots.

This initiative followed the successful and one-of-its-kind program between EAM and Airbus Helicopters for rotary wing pilot training at its Heliescuela facility in the State of Veracruz, which has been providing ab initio training and accumulated more than 6,000 flight hours since 2009.

At the event, Erick Pérez, Director of Engineering, Training and Safety at Airbus Helicopters in Mexico, conducted a Safety Conference to provide participants with an overview of international accident statistics and highlight the importance of analyzing rotorcraft incidents to proactively derive and implement preventive measures.
