Allison Transmission, designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions for tactical wheeled and tracked defence vehicles, and medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, is showcasing its capabilties and meeting with key industry partners from across the globe during the ongoing IDEX 2023.
Allison operates a premier manufacturing plant in Chennai. In addition to attending the event, company representatives are planning to conduct a series of visits to customers and end users in India. According to company officials, Allison views India as a key partner and a global market, as evidenced by the company’s participation in multiple defense and commercial endeavors in the country. There are several industry export opportunities available in the country, they said.
In India, Allison Transmission is working with Larsen and Toubro (L&T) to provide the Allison 3040 MX TM propulsion solution for the Indian Army’s Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) prototype. The company will manage engineering design, development, fabrication, testing and demonstration of the 3040 MX for the FICV prototype vehicles through 2024. The Indian Army has plans to procure about 1,750 FICVs over the next two decades.
Tracked and wheeled vehicle OEMs from Germany, South Korea, Turkey, France, Canada, Israel and the United States, powered by Allison transmissions, have won defence contracts in 2021 across Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Among its major partners are German-based Rheinmetall and Hanwha Defense of South Korea.
