: Dec 18, 2013 - : 11:51 pm

Newly de-bankrupted American Airlines has signed up to buy 30 Bombardier CRJ900 regional jets, with options for up to 40 more, and expects to take delivery of the first aircraft in Q2 2014. This is in addition to existing firm orders for 60 Embraer E175s, with options for up to 90 more.

“Now that we’ve closed our merger with US Airways, we can deliver a top-tier regional product [which] will greatly improve economic efficiencies by lowering operating costs,” said Kenji Hashimoto, SVP, Regional at the new, bigger American.

Both the CRJ900 and the E175 are powered by GeneralElectricCF34-8 engines.
