Artemis Technologies Bats for Sustainable Maritime Solutions

Our Bureau - : Mar 6, 2024 - : 4:02 am

Belfast-based Artemis Technologies, which is a part of the UK pavilion at the ongoing show, is highlighting the capabilities of its all-electric high-speed boats and its commitment to sustainable maritime solutions.

The company, which is a pin-off from America’s Cup team Artemis Racing, launched the world’s first commercially viable, fully electric foiling workboat in June 2022. The boat has met with an enthusiastic response globally. The workboat portfolio includes the EF-12 Pilot, EF-12 Crew transfer vessel, EF-24 Crew Transfer Vessel, EF-12 Workboat and EF-12 Workboat XL. Artemis Technologies public transport boats are the EF-12 Escape and the EF-24 Passenger. Earlier this year, Artemis Technologies sold a 100% electric foiling workboat to Denmark. The Artemis EF-12 Workboat XL can carry up to twelve passengers and two crew.

“A big market for us is ferries,” says John Cummings, the company’s head of workboats. “We have competition, but we are probably three years ahead of everybody. We own everything in the boat, from propulsion units, the hydrofoils, the battery and the flight control system.”

For government agencies and potential military customers, the company’s patrol boats include the EF-12 and the EF-20H. According to Cummings, the company also develops hybrid variants of its boats. The EF-12 Patrol, which is ideal for coastal security operations, has a top speed of 30kts and a foiling range of 55nm. An optional diesel hybrid range extender can extend its foiling range to 236nm.

“We have sold boats in the Middle East but not necessarily in the defence market yet,” said Cummings. “But I think it is only a matter of time. We have seen interest from navies as well as some of the largest defence companies in the region as well as the U.S.”
