Aselsan Konya is showcasing some of its latest small arms system developments at the ongoing SAHA Expo. Aselsan Konya is a joint-stock company affiliated with Aselsan Inc. 51% of its shares belong to Aselsan and 49% to Konya Savunma Sanayii A.Ş.
On display at the show is Aselsan Konya’s AKONS, Next Generation Weapon Sight for Infantry Rifles, AKONS Pan-Tilt and new MAKS AGL 40, 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. Speaking to Daily News at the show, Taner Karagoz, Director, Programme, Business Development and Marketing at Aselsan Konya said, that development of the AKONS, Next Generation Weapon Sight for Infantry Rifles began in 2021 to meet a requirement set by the the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB).
The AKONS smart optical sight is being displayed for the first time at SAHA, along with the AKONS Pan-Tilt and new MAKS AGL 40, 40 mm automatic grenade launcher.
The MAKS AGL 40 is making its show debut at SAHA. The high-precision 40mm automatic grenade launcher features a lightweight and ergonomic design and is capable of being integrated into land, sea and air platforms. It weighs only 19 kg (without ammunition) as compared to approximately 40 kg for legacy 40mm automatic grenade launchers. The MAKS AGL 40 can be carried by a single person and can also be integrated onto Remote Controlled Weapon Systems (RCWS) and Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV). It can also be integrated on the AKON Pan-Tilt system giving it greater versatility. The weapon delivers superior operational performance in both single-shot and burst-fire modes
Karagoz said the new AKON weapon sights have been developed completely in Turkey by Aselsan Konya. The family of new-generation weapon sights encompasses the AKON for 7.62 mm/5.56 mm assault rifles, AKON-H for sniper rifles, AKON-L for trainining and smart soldier systems along with the AKON Pan-Tilt. Karagoz said qualification had been completed for the AKON and AKON-L sights, while qualification of the AKON-H and AKON Pan-Tilt is planned for completion before the end of the year.
AKONS is a next-generation sighting system specifically developed for infantry rifles, incorporating the latest technology for soldiers’ use. By integrating all critical equipment, such as a scope, fire control computer, meteorological sensors and laser rangefinder into a single system, it delivers maximum performance with minimal training. AKONS minimizes human error and enables soldiers to achieve high accuracy in challenging operational conditions. The firing control system, which calculates laser distance measurements and environmental factors in real time, reduces human errors and provides the capability to make accurate shots under all conditions.
