Asian Debut for Flying Legend TP-150

Flying Legend has debuted the TP-150 military trainer and patrol aircraft at the show, in partnership with its local partner Flying Legend Vietnam. The appearance of the aircraft in Hanoi, marks the Asian debut of the TP-150.

Flying Legend is headquartered in Italy with operational facilities in the USA and a new production facility in Vietnam. In fact, Flying Legend presents itself as the first aircraft company to build an aircraft in Vietnam. The company announced earlier in December that it had begun aircraft production in Hanoi, only one year after entering into an agreement with its Vietnamese partners. The civilian version of the TP-150 is also sold by Flying Legends.

As per the company, the availability of a kit staged design provides an option not found to date in military training aircraft. A quick build version developed for the experimental market can be used to train military maintenance personnel to assemble the aircraft, thus further reducing acquisition and maintenance costs. The Dominican Republic Air Force already uses the TP-150 (called DULUS ). The Flying Legend TP-150 is a basic military trainer modelled on the highly successful Brazilian Embraer Tucano 312 high performance training and air-to-ground support aircraft.

The TP-150 is exemplified by its low acquisition and maintenance costs and the concept of affordable and durable military basic training was born from the efforts of two Italian entrepreneurs in 2010. The aircraft features an aluminum airframe and its extra strength landing gear allows it to undertake military pilot training. The airplane is entirely built in aluminium 2024T3 and 6061T6 and is coated with a durable epoxy primer to guarantee the protection of the structure throughout its lifecycle.

The TP-150 is available with fixed or retractable landing gear, as also high performance propellers, auxiliary wing tanks, a parachute recovery system, additional hard points and custom avionics. The trainer aircraft can operate effectively from a variety of runway surfaces, including grass, gravel, concrete or asphalt and the +6/-3g load factor airplane is designed to withstand the rigors of a military training environment. It is powered by a proven 150hp air/water cooled engine that is reliable and economical, while a turbine powered version is under development.

The TP-150 is available to customers as an experimental aircraft in two versions: the first is suitable for initial training and has fixed landing gear and may be fitted with either a fixed or variable – pitch propeller. The second variant is ideal for advanced training and features retractable landing gear and a variable – pitch propeller. The TP-150 FG with fixed landing gear includes basic double instrument panels for forward and aft pilot including Dynon EFIS, analogue instruments, radio, transponder, ELT, autopilot (2-axis servos) and may be equipped with various IFR Avionics Systems depending on customer requirements. The TP-150 RG is equipped with retractable landing gear, a variable-pitch propeller, and double instrument panels (forward and aft pilot) including Dynon EFIS, analogical instruments, radio, transponder, and ELT.
