BAE System Seeks Greater Collaboration with Japanese Industry

BAE Systems, which is participating in the ongoing event, is looking to further enhance its partnership with Japanese firms by offering world class capabilities across the land, sea, air and cyber domain.

The capabilities could be delivered in partnership with Japanese companies to help develop the indigenous Japanese defence industry further, a company spokesperson told Daily News prior to the start of the show. Most recently, BAE Systems partnered with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Leonardo to deliver the Japan, UK, Italy Global Combat Air Programme.

“We have cyber protection capability in service with government agencies globally” the official said.,”Our ship design expertise currently deployed in Australia, the UK and Canada to create the world’s most advanced anti-submarine frigate. We are the world leader in electronic aircraft warfare and protection systems and of course a partner on the GCAP programme. As a major supplier to three of Japan’s closest allies, we stand ready to support Japan in partnership with Japanese industry,” the official said.

BAE Systems’ presence in Japan extends over 25 years. The company has a variety of equipment in service in the country, including 52 Amphibious Armoured Vehicles, the supply of which began in 2016. Ten 40MK4 Naval Guns iare n service while 10 are planned in partnership with Japan Steel Works to provide support for the Mk 45 Naval Gun. The licensed production of the Mk 45 Mod 4 127 mm. is also in the works. The company also supplies Electronic Warfare systems, avionics, flight controls and numerous other systems to the Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) and many other Japan Ministry of Defence products. BAE Systems is a also Tier one partner on the F-35 Lightning II programme, for which Japan is the largest export customer.
