Batam going regional

: Feb 6, 2014 - : 9:14 am

LCC Lion Group is to make Batam its second major hub to help relieve congestion at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Lion plans to serve 20 domestic destinations from Batam in the near future, including to Makassar and Bali Denpasar.

Rusdi Kirana, Lion president, said that transiting at Batam was often faster and better for east/west journeys in Indonesia.

“A shorter flying time makes flying more convenient for passengers and it means aircraft burn less fuel, leading to significant cost savings,” he added. The company plans to launch international services from Batam next year, including Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Thailand and Saudi Arabia.
