Boeing unveils 737 MAX 8 specs

Boeing has released a firm configuration for its 737 MAX 8, with final assembly scheduled for Q1 2015 and first delivery Q3 2017.

“We have defined the design requirements for the 737 MAX,” said Michael Teal, chief project engineer. “We … have completed all the requirements for the development stage of the program and are ready to begin the detailed design phase.” The update, using new LEAP-1B engines from CFM International to give a claimed 13% fuel efficiency boost, is aimed at the booming single-aisle market, notching up a total of 1,495 737 orders to date.
