Bombardier cuts

Putative narrow-body player Bombardier has bitten the bullet on the back of lacklustre orders for its new C-Series aircraft – by laying off 1,700 workers in Canada and the US. Some 1,100 Bombardier Aerospace in Montreal and 600 in Kansas. This is only 6% of the corporation’s workforce, but represents a big hit for the new aircraft, which has only racked up some 200 orders and is facing stiff competition for Russia and China, as well as Embraer, Airbus and Boeing.
