Britten-Norman Introduces Unleaded Fuel Option for Islander Aircraft

Our Bureau - : Sep 11, 2024 - : 12:52 am

Britten-Norman has announced a new modification for its BN2B-26 Islander aircraft, allowing the use of unleaded fuel in the piston engine. This development is part of the company’s broader efforts towards more sustainable aviation.

The modification includes three approved unleaded fuel specifications: ASTM D7547 (UL 91 and UL 94), DEF-STAN 91-090 (UL 91), and HJELMCO (91/96 UL).

Switching to these fuels offers potential advantages for operators, including reduced refuelling and maintenance costs, greater fuel availability, longer service intervals, and improved safety.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has moved to phase out leaded AVGAS, reinforcing the need for this transition.

“Britten-Norman is committed to delivering a sustainable future for aviation through our Green Futures initiative. This development is an important milestone for the hundreds of Islander operators who will be able to reduce their emissions through the introduction of unleaded fuels,” said Mark Shipp, Britten-Norman’s Technical Director and Head of Design.

Britten-Norman is a UK-based aircraft manufacturer known for its twin-engine piston and turboprop aircraft. The company exports most of its products and actively engages in research and development, working with technology partners to advance green aviation initiatives.
