An air defense brigade of the People’s Liberation Army in the Jinan Military Region test-fired its S-300PMU-2 surface-to-air missile introduced from Russia on May 2, according to Want Daily paper.

China Military Online, the official website operated by the PLA, published a photo of the exercise taking place in the Bohai Sea region. Designed based on the S-300PMU-1, the S-300PMU-2 has a range of between three to 200 kilometers and is capable of intercepting targets at between 10 and 27,000 feet. The report indicates that the S-300PMU-2 has between an 80%-93% chance of intercepting enemy aircraft successfully. For enemy cruise missiles, it has a success rate of between 80%-98%.

During the exercise that took place on May 2, two missiles were launched according to China Military Online. Eventually, both missiles hit their targets. The missiles can be launched from mobile launchers, which means it only takes five minutes for the S-300PMU-2 to be readied for combat. The time it takes for the missile to launch is between five and 12 seconds.
