Capping off the strong Chinese presence at the ongoing airshow is the Z-10ME attack helicopter which is being displayed for the first time at an international air-show by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) and the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC). A company official said that the Z-10ME was being displayed at the show to further its export potential, “and some countries have shown interest in the helicopter.”

The medium multirole attack helicopter offers good flight performance and excellent maneuverability at ultra-low altitudes. “It has strong firepower, high battlefield survivability, and a good man-machine interface,” the official observed. He added that AVIC/CATIC held the full Intellectual Property (IP) rights for the Z-10ME and as a result were able to full Transfer of Technology (ToT) to potential customers along with extensive support agreements.

The Chinese Government has also proved amenable to offering attractive finance terms for the purchase of Chinese weapons.

The Z-10ME is an improved version of the Z-10 in use by ground and air forces of the People’s Liberation Army. The Z-10ME was first unveiled at the Airshow China 2018 in Zhuhai and features more powerful 1,200-kilowatt engines, which have allowed an increase in its mobility, protection, and firepower.

The Z-10 is in widespread use in China and has been commissioned by the PLA in large numbers in recent years. It is the first attack helicopter developed domestically by China.

Pakistan is thought to be the first export customer for the Z-10ME, opting for the Chinese type following the cancellation of its T129 attack helicopter buy from Turkey.
