Comac Promotes C919 and ARJ21 in Paris

Our Bureau - : Jun 21, 2023 - : 4:44 am

Buoyed by the market response to the ARJ21 regional jet and the delivery of the first C919 to China Eastern Airlines, Comac has brought display models of the two aircraft to the ongoing Show.

The company hopes to expand its reach into overseas markets. Apart from the models of the two aircraft, Comac is also promoting the under-development CR929, which the company is working on with Russian company United Aircraft. The CR929 will have 280-320 seats, a range of 12,000 km, and a cruise speed of 0.85 Mach.

The single-isle C919 has a range of 4,075-5,555 km and can accommodate 158-192 passengers. The aircraft’s 2.25 meter isle height and human-centric cabin design offers slightly wider middle seats than side ones, reduced noise levels, and improved air quality. The aircraft’s launch customer, China Eastern Airlines, took delivery on December 9. The aircraft, which completed its maiden commercial flight on May 28, has now garnered 1,061 orders.

The ARJ21 seats 78-97 passengers and offers a range of 2,25-3,700 km. It has so far attracted 775 orders from over 20 customers. “The aircraft is ideally suited to the Asian market,” says Wang Silei, Comac senior manager of media relations. “We expect it to do well in the region. The aircraft performs well during takeoff and landing in high-temperature and high-altitude airports.”

More than 100 ARJ21s are currently in service, including with China’s Air China, China Eastern, China Southern Airlines, Chengdu Airlines, Genghis Khan Airlines, Jiangxi Air, China Express Airlines, and Indonesian operator TransNusa Airlines. The aircraft has so far operated 369 routes and transported over 7 million passengers.

Comac’s ARJ21 freighter conversion programme has two customers – YTO Cargo Airlines and Zhongyuan Airlines.
