: Nov 18, 2019 - : 4:00 pm

The Defence Technology Institute (DTI), Thailand’s defence research agency is working on a Research & Development (R&D) programme for an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Robot. DTI has developed two robots: EMPIR v 2.1 small- sized robot and NOO-NAR portable robot that have been designed for inspection and diffusion of explosives for the Royal Thai armed forces and security forces.

The small portable robots have been undergoing test and evaluation with DTI for a year. The D-EMPIR v 2.1 can be deployed to detect, recover and dispose explosives by using Recoilless Water Disruptor.

An improved version called D-EMPIR v 3.0 is also under development between DTI and Mahanakorn University of Technology (MUT). The NOO-NAR lightweight robot weighs just under 6 kg and is being developed by DTI in collaboration between DTI and Prince Songkla University (PSU).
