EirTrade Aviation, a global aviation asset trading and material management company based in Dublin, has announced the promotion of Lee Carey to Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and Karl Fitzgibbon to Chief Operating Officer (COO). Both executives have been with the company for nearly a decade, during which they have taken on increasing responsibilities.

Lee Carey, who holds a Master’s in Aviation Finance from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School and a Bachelor’s in Aviation Management from Dublin City University, joined EirTrade in 2016. He has held various senior roles, including Vice President of Origination & Trading, where he was involved in the acquisition of over 100 commercial aircraft and engines. In his new role as CIO, Carey will continue overseeing these activities, while also focusing on strengthening relationships with investors and industry partners.

Carey commented on EirTrade’s significant growth over the years, highlighting the expansion of its services and diversification of its asset base. He added that the company has increasingly integrated its operations across more aircraft platforms, contributing to its complexity and growth.

Karl Fitzgibbon, who began his career at EirTrade in 2014 and most recently served as Vice President of Operations, will now oversee the company’s operations. Fitzgibbon, who manages teams in Dublin and Dallas, focuses on optimising processes to improve productivity and profitability. He explained that his priority will be streamlining operations and implementing solutions to enhance efficiency across the company’s global operations.

Both Carey and Fitzgibbon expressed their gratitude for the company’s success, attributing it to the collective efforts of EirTrade’s team. They emphasised the company’s entrepreneurial culture, which has contributed to its continued growth and success in the aviation industry.

Ken Fitzgibbon, CEO of EirTrade, praised the appointments and expressed confidence in the company’s future. He noted that the company is well-positioned for further growth, particularly in the used serviceable materials (USM) market. Fitzgibbon also highlighted the company’s recent recognition as one of the ‘Best Places to Work in Aviation 2024’ and its ‘Workplace Achievement 2024’ award.
