Embraer is participating at the ongoing Vietnam Defence Expo with the intention to partner with Hanoi for its current and future military modernisation requirements. The presence of the Brazilian firm in Vietnam, reflects the strengthened bilateral relations between Brazil and Vietnam. The Prime Minister of Vietnam, Phạm Minh Chính had met with Embraer representatives on the sidelines of the recent G20 Summit in Brazil and the engagement highlighted the opportunity for Embraer to further contribute towards Vietnam’s aerospace ambitions.
“Embraer is honoured to participate in Vietnam Defence Expo 2024 and warmly congratulates the Vietnam People’s Army on its 80th anniversary,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defence & Security. “Vietnam is a key market for Embraer, and we are committed to contributing to the development of the country’s aerospace and defense industry. We look forward to exploring ways to further collaborate and promote technological advancement.”
The Brazilian firm is showcasing scale models of its highly successful C-390 Millennium multi-mission military transport aircraft and the A-29 Super Tucano light attack, reconnaissance and advanced training aircraft. Sweden had announced its decision in November to opt for the C-390 Millennium as its new tactical transport aircraft. Slovakia has also indicated the C-390 as its best option to modernize its military transport fleet. The C-390 Millennium is configured for transport missions, while the aircraft configured with air-to-air refueling equipment, and designated as the KC-390, has the aerial refueling capacity both as a tanker and as a receiver.
The C-390 can carry 26 tonnes of payload at speeds of 470 knots and can undertake a wide range of missions such as air logistic support to Government agencies, aerial surveillance, transporting and dropping cargo and troops, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian missions. It can operate on temporary or unpaved runways such as packed earth, soil, coral and gravel. The current C-390 Millennium fleet globally has accumulated more than 15,000 flight hours, with the fleet demonstrating a 93% mission capability rate with mission completion rates above 99%. Embraer has won orders for the C-390 from South Korea, the Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal and Brazil.
Embraer has received orders for over 260 A-29 Super Tucanos, with the type operated by 16 airforces. Customers in the region, include Indonesia and the Philippines. The A-29 has a proven ability to operate from remote and unpaved runways on advanced operational bases in hostile environments with little support, demonstrating availability rates above 90%. The newest versions of the A-29 are available with an electro-optical/infrared system with laser designator, night vision goggles, secure voice communications, and a data-link package.
The aircraft can perform a wide range of missions such as Close Air Support (CAS), air patrol, special operations, air interdiction, JTAC, forward air controller (FAC), air and tactical coordinator (TAC), Armed ISR, border surveillance, reconnaissance, air escort, basic, operational and advanced training, transition to air superiority fighters, JTAC/LIFT and FAC training. The worldwide A-29 fleet has accumulated over 570, 000 flight hours, including approximately 60, 000 combat hours.
