Embraer has confirmed a firm order for six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from an undisclosed customer. The order will be included in the company’s fourth-quarter 2024 backlog, with deliveries scheduled for 2026.
The aircraft are designed for a range of operational roles, including battlefield air interdiction, close air support, maritime patrol, maritime strike, and territorial defence missions.
Commenting on the development, Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, said, “We are thrilled to announce new sales of the A-29 Super Tucano, as we see this aircraft as the right fit for many nations around the world. The A-29 is the global leader in its category because it’s a proven, reliable and well-advanced aircraft.”
The A-29 Super Tucano is a multi-mission aircraft capable of supporting armed reconnaissance, light attack, close air support, and advanced training on a single platform. It is built with a durable airframe that allows operations from unpaved runways in challenging environments, enhancing its operational flexibility and availability.
Globally, the A-29 Super Tucano is recognised for its success in its category, with over 290 units ordered and more than 570,000 flight hours, including 60,000 in combat. Earlier in 2024, Embraer secured orders for the A-29 from the Portuguese Air Force (A-29N), the Uruguayan Air Force, and the Paraguayan Air Force.
