Embraer’s commercial outlook, released on Tuesday at the ongoing show, projects a need for 11,000 new deliveries, valued at US$650 billion, over the next 20 years in the under-150-seat market. As many as 2210 of them will be turboprops.
The company's cargo outlook projects demand for a further 600 aircraft, with the company optimistic that its converted E-Jets will help bridge the gap.
According to the company, global passenger volume will grow 3.2% annually (CAGR). The need for flexibility, complementing narrow-body aircraft, is driving demand in the up-to-150-seat segment, it added.
Embraer Commercial Aviation President and CEO, Arjan Meijer, told reporters that aircraft in the up-to-150 seat category had a major role to play in maintaining airline network connectivity. Remote working and a greening industry will affect both the way people travel and the demand for new aircraft.
The outlook has not so good news for passengers: The sustainability drive will affect demand, Embraer said, as will the cost of new fuels and new technology. This is likely to increase the cost of flying over time.
Growth will be most pronounced in the Asia Pacific region, with the region forecast to have a 42 % RPK share by the end of 2042. Europe and North America together will account for 38 %.
While North America is the region where most of the new jets (30.6 %) will be used, Asia Pacific will account for 41 % of the turboprop deliveries.
Meijer said that Embraer had over 2,000 net orders for its E-Jet and was the undisputed market leader in the under 150-seat market. The E-175 still sees continued demand, mainly from regional airlines in the United States, he added,
Energia family: Embraer has narrowed down the propulsion system for its Energis family of aircraft to either hybrid electric or a hydrogen fuel cell. The company plans to develop the Energia family up to a size of 50 seats in either a 3-abreast or 4-abreast configuration. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US regional carrier Republic to develop and adapt Energia to the US market.
