EURONAVAL Goes Digital

EURONAVAL Goes Digital

: Oct 7, 2020 - : 6:26 am

The 27th edition of the EURONAVAL exhibition is going digital and will be held from 19th to 25th October on the EURONAVAL-ONLINE platform. The decision was taken by the organisers GICAN and its subsidiary SOGENA, following continued health concerns as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.  More than 300 exhibitors from over 20 countries and 70 official foreign delegations were due to participate in EURONAVAL at Paris-Le Bourget, prior to the decision to move to a digital only show format.

‘In our sector of activity, nothing beats a physical event and meetings. The Euronaval 2020 exhibition was eagerly awaited by exhibitors and our international visitors after several months of interruption of trade fairs around the world. The resumption of business contacts is more important than ever. The GICAN and SOGENA are taking a responsible attitude in light of the resurgence of the epidemic, but are determined to support the activity of manufacturers in France, Europe and around the world, and are offering an innovative solution to all the actors in the sector, to accompany the revival of the naval market,’ said Hervé GUILLOU, President of the GICAN, following the announcement of a digital only EURONAVAL exhibition.

EURONAVAL 2020 is being held at time of great global uncertainty with rising military tensions in many regions of the world. ‘The behaviour of several powers, with global or regional claims, has reached an unprecedented level of disinhibition,’ France’s Defence Minister Florence Parly said in a recent speech in Paris, while adding that the fight against terrorism both inside and outside the country’s borders remains a priority. The multi-year budget allocated to the armed forces under France’s Military Programming Law (LPM), the over the period 2019-2025 will include 295 billion Euros spent on major weapons programs, such as the Griffon multi-role armored vehicle, the Suffren nuclear attack submarine and the Airbus A330 MRTT tanker. “These are investments for structuring armament programmes and a complete renewal of equipment to always keep the advantage on the ground,” Parly said. The French Government will also inject 110 billion euros injected into the economy between 2019 and 2023 for equipment, infrastructure and maintaining military equipment in operational condition.

Previously reserved for official delegations and exhibitors unable to travel to Paris-Le Bourget, EURONAVAL-ONLINE will now be open to all visitors and exhibitors who wish to use it. The decision to proceed with EURONAVAL, albeit in a digital only format, will still allow participating companies to share the latest naval technologies and innovations with participants and delegates. The previous edition of the show, EURONAVAL 2018 marked the 50th anniversary of the naval exhibition which was first held in 1968. EURONAVAL 2018 witnessed more than 25,000 participants, 480 exhibitors from 34 countries. Out of the 142 official delegations that visited the show; 101 were foreign delegations representing 72 countries from 5 continents.
