Exail has recently launched and tested its new transoceanic Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV), the DriX O-16. The vessel was presented to notable customers and partners, including significant global hydrographic institutes and navies.

“We are very proud to have demonstrated to our clients, in such a short time, our capacity to deliver a new fully functional USV that meets the demand for larger capacity, endurance, and multi-mission capabilities, while maintaining high reliability and efficiency at sea,” said Sébastien Grall, Director, Maritime Autonomy Solutions at Exail.

“We are convinced that platforms such as DriX O-16 will support the marine industry’s transition to more reliable and efficient autonomous operations”.

The DriX O-16, initially unveiled in March at the Oceanology International event in London, had its first sea trial on Wednesday, 29 May, at its home port in La Ciotat, located in the South of France. After undergoing initial trials over the following days, it was demonstrated to selected partners and customers on Wednesday, 5 June.

The DriX O-16 is an advancement in Exail’s USV range, being twice the length and five times the displacement of the previous DriX H-8 model. Designed for operations lasting up to 30 days, the vessel offers an autonomy of 3,500 nautical miles and is equipped to deploy multiple payloads and subsea assets.

Its increased size accommodates a variety of payloads, such as Multibeam Echosounders (MBES), Sub-Bottom Profilers (SBP), and underwater acoustic positioning and communication systems (USBL). Additionally, the USV includes a launch and recovery system for deploying Remotely Operated Towed Vehicles (ROTVs), inspection-class Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). This makes it particularly suitable for comprehensive ocean-depth scientific and hydrographic surveys, geophysical and unexploded ordnance (UXO) surveys, and subsea infrastructure inspections.
