Experts support extra HK runway

Andrew Herdman, Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) director general, claims Hong Kong needs a third runway in order to remain competitive as a major aviation hub, and take advantage of such future growth opportunities. But he added that the authority “ … needs to take into account environmental and social considerations when building the required new infrastructure.”

Herdman pointed out that aviation has played a crucial role in Hong Kong’s successful development as a major tourism destination, and a leading international centre for business, trading and transport logistics. “As living standards in the Asia Pacific region continue to rise, it is very clear that demand for air travel will continue to grow,” he added.
