An Indian firm and one from Australia are among the 15 startups that have selected by aerospace and defense accelerator Starburst Aerospace to present their innovations at International Space Pitch Day, which will be held on Nov 17 as part of the two-day virtual Defence Space Conference 2020.
The companies, which were selected as part of the Allied Defence Accelerator program, will pitch for a chance to receive government funding to mature their solutions. There are six startups each from the U.S. and U.K on the list, with one each from Canada, India and Australia.
The startups will pitch their solutions to challenges within the aerospace, space and defense industries. As the competition is focused on technologies that have already been proven commercially and have the potential to be applied to military space capability problems, companies will be allowed to pitch adaptations of existing non-defence solutions.
The selected companies are Riskaware Limited and Telespazio Vega UK (UK), Spire Global UK (UK), Slingshot Aerospace (US), 114 AI Innovation (India), Consortium of L3Harris, NORSS and Intelligence Fusion (UK), Rocket Communications (US), Cognitive Space (US), Swim.ai (US), SQR Systems (UK), precursor SPC (US), KISPE Space Systems (UK), NorthStar Earth & Space (Canada), Zoic Labs (US), Clutch Space Systems, and Clearbox Systems (Austalia.) The finalists stand a chance of receiving funding for their innovations from a US$ 1 million fund.
“This initiative will carve a new path for international defense procurement,” said Vandad Espahbodi, Co-Founder of Starburst Accelerator. “We are proud to partner with such incredible defense leaders and entrepreneurs changing the way innovation happens in defense.” “The U.S. & U.K. are setting a precedent for allied cooperation in unprecedented and inventive ways.”
Developed by the U.S. Air Force, the U.K. Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, and the U.K. Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA), the Allied Defence Accelerator (ADA) is a coalition of U.K. and U.S. partners, including Starburst, United States Space Force, Space & Missile Systems Center, Ministry of Defense, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, Defence and Security Accelerator, Strategic Command, Royal Air Force, and Air Force Research Laboratory.
