India’s Tejas light fighter has formally received its Final Operational Clearance (FOC) and Release to Service Document (RSD), signifying the completion of development of the Tejas MK1 variant.

20th February 2019 is a significant day in the journey of Light Combat Aircraft Tejas MK I for Indian Air Force (IAF), when the formal declaration of Tejas FOC and handing over of FOC Certificate and Release to Service Document (RSD) to IAF, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa, took place at the ongoing air show.

“We are happy with the aircraft and it is already displaying high serviceability rates and precision attack capability in the IAF,” says Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa.

Production of FOC standard aircraft has already commenced at Bengaluru based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and aircraft deliveries are expected to start next year.

The Tejas Mk1 in its FOC configuration can undertake air-to-air and air-to ground missions and is capable of mid-air refuelling.
