First Time in Qatar for Meteksan’s Felix Counter-UAS System, ULAQ KAMA USV

The Felix On-The-Move Counter UAS System and the Yakamos-RT retractable radar are among the capabilities that Turkish company Meteksan Defence is exhibiting at DIMDEX for the first time.

Felix is capable of detecting, tracking and neutralising mini/micro-UAVs and Kamikaze UAVs, says Burak Akbas, International Sales, Marketing and Corporate Reputation Director. “Felix is one of the few UAV defence systems in the world market that has the ability to operate on the move. It has both radars and electronic warfare (EW) systems. The system has a special reactive jammer, which is different from traditional jammers. It jams only the frequency of the threat. Friendly troops and soldiers can use their own radios when the system is being used. It is a new product, and we are currently in discussion with the Turkish Army for its use.”

The Yakamos-RT, Akbas said, was developed to provide anti-submarine warfare capability to smaller platforms such as patrol boats and unmanned naval vehicles that operate in shallow waters. “The Yakamos-RT is already operational with the Turkish Navy and in two other countries. Normally, our sonars are operational with big corvettes and frigates, but this was developed for a specific use.”

Also being exhibited for the first time at DIMDEX is the expendable unmanned Surface Vessel Ulaq Kama, jointly developed by Mereksan and Ares Shipyard. “The Kamikaze USV can carry more than 220 kg of payloads. It is not only a deterrent weapon with its explosive payload but also serves as an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform thanks to its uninterruptable communication network, long-range, very low silhouette and unique sea worthiness beyond its dimensions. It will be in the inventory of the Turkish Navy in a couple of months.”
