Garuda Indonesia Introduces Its First Pokémon-themed Aircraft

Yulian Ardiansyah - : Jan 12, 2024 - : 6:01 pm

The Indonesian flag carrier airline, Garuda Indonesia, has introduced the first of two Pokémon-themed aircraft liveries which will serve the Jakarta-Denpasar route next month. Called Pokémon Jet GA1, the first of these two aircraft will start flying on 23rd February 2024 followed by the Pokémon Jet GA2 which will be announced at a later date.

The new liveries on these aircraft are one the results of the collaboration between the Japanese game and animation company, The Pokémon Company, with Garuda Indonesia signed in May last year. The collaboration is also meant to support the “Pokémon Air Adventure” and “Pikachu’s Indonesia Journey” series of events that will be held in four Indonesian major cities starting in Denpasar, Bali between 2-3 March 2024.

“We are carrying out this collaboration to bring joy to the community through the launch of Pokémon Air Adventures,” said Ade R. Susardi, Director of Service & Commercial Garuda Indonesia, during the Pikachu’s Indonesia Journey press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (Jan. 11). “Later on, these Pikachu Jets will also be used to serve flights from Jakarta to other cities, including Bangkok, Batam, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Malang,” he added.

Aside from new liveries, the airline will also provide Pokémon franchise-themed pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight services, especially for the flights using these Pokémon Jets. There will also be a Pokémon Kids TV channel for in-flight entertainment directed at passengers with children.

The Collaboration with The Pokémon Company and the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to present Pokémon Air Adventures in Indonesia is a joint adaptive step to exploit the market share of domestic and regional tourists to Indonesia by optimizing public enthusiasm, especially in the family market segment and fans of the franchise.

“Garuda Indonesia is committed to always being at the forefront in supporting the growth of national tourism by presenting […] anime characters and online games that have long been known to the Indonesian people,” said Garuda Indonesia’s President Director and CEO, Irfan Setiaputra in May 2023.
