Global Medical Response (GMR) has ordered 28 new Airbus helicopters to expand its air medical fleet, including six H125s, five H130s, 14 H135s, and three H145s. This follows an earlier order of five helicopters in 2024, bringing GMR's Airbus fleet to nearly 200 aircraft, making it one of the largest operators of Airbus helicopters in North America.
In addition to the 28 helicopters ordered, GMR has an option to acquire up to 23 additional Airbus helicopters over the next three years. This order will make GMR among the first operators in North America to use the H125 model equipped for instrument flight rules (IFR).
“At Global Medical Response, we understand the critical impact air ambulances have in delivering rapid, lifesaving support when it’s needed most,” said GMR National President of Air Operations, Daniel Sweeza. “Our investment in Airbus helicopters strengthens our ability to deliver life-saving healthcare where care is needed the most. This expansion underscores our unwavering commitment to accessible, advanced care – ensuring that, regardless of where patients are, we can be there to make a difference when every second matters.”
GMR, a prominent player in the air medical transport sector, has around 36,000 employees providing medical services throughout the United States and globally. The company operates 387 air base locations under brands including Air Evac Lifeteam, REACH Air Medical Services, Med-Trans Corporation, AirMed International, and Guardian Flight. Since 2021, GMR has added over 30 Airbus helicopters to its fleet.
Commenting on the order, Bart Reijnen, Head of the North America Region for Airbus Helicopters, stated: “We are proud to continue supporting GMR as their teams work to deliver critical care to communities across the country, and pleased they have once again trusted Airbus helicopters to play a key role in their missions. These additions reinforce GMR’s commitment to providing high quality medical care, and we look forward to the positive impact the new helicopters will have on their operations.”
Airbus has a long-standing presence in the North American air medical transport industry, having provided helicopters for emergency medical services for over 50 years. The H125 and H130 models are known for their class-leading visibility and spacious cabins, while the H135 and H145 models, featuring Airbus' Helionix avionics, provide lower noise levels and reduced CO2 emissions, making them well-suited for urban and sensitive environments.
