Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is well placed for the future with Rupees 840 billion worth of existing orders and a pipeline of Rupees 500 billion, HAL Chairman and Managing Director C B Ananthakrishnan said during a press conference held at Aero India.

HAL is eyeing fighter exports for its Tejas light fighter in Malaysia, Argentina and Egypt. HAL is one of the two shortlisted contenders for the Malaysian Fighter Lead in Trainer – Light Combat Aircraft (FLIT – LCA) tender for 18 aircraft. Ananthakrishnan said Argentina had a requirement for 15 aircraft, while the Egyptian requirement could be for up to 20 aircraft. The Philippines is also eyeing the purchase of six Dhruv utility helicopters.

Ananthakrishnan said HAL is working towards delivering the first Tejas Mk-1A in February 2024 and added that the roll-out of the LCA Mk2 is planned for December 2024.
