Hanwha Aerospace Proposes Chunmoo MRLS for Philippines

Hanwha Aerospace which is participating in the ongoing ADAS, alongside Hanwha Systems and Hanwha Ocean, is showcasing its Chunmoo Multi Rocket Launcher System (MRLS) to meet the requirements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. “During the exhibition, Hanwha Aerospace will present the Chunmoo MRLS that we believe will greatly contribute to enhancing the defense capabilities of the Philippine military,” a company spokesperson told Daily News.

The next-generation artillery system offers a range of capabilities that align well with the unique challenges faced by nations in the region, especially those with diverse operational requirements, particularly those with complex geographic landscapes. “This system is designed to meet the unique defence challenges faced by island nations like the Philippines, providing a robust solution for both land and maritime security needs,” the official added.

Hanwha Aerospace is also promising early deliveries, given the constraints some nations face with other systems, such as extended delivery times for HIMARS. Hanwha Aerospace is offering a more attainable alternative with a proven ability to meet tight schedules.

Also, when compared to the American HIMARS, while both systems offer advanced artillery capabilities, Chunmoo distinguishes itself with a dual-launcher setup that doubles the missile capacity of its counterpart. This feature, combined with its 8×8 vehicle chassis, supports a broader operational scope, allowing for more sustained and varied engagement options.

Developed by South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace and operational since 2014, the Chunmoo MRLS offers a multi-caliber rocket launching capability, allowing it to adapt quickly to different mission profiles. This flexibility makes it suitable for a wide range of scenarios, from neutralizing enemy fire support to engaging high-value targets in challenging environments. The integration of a GPS/INS hybrid navigation system allows Chunmoo to achieve high levels of precision, even against moving targets—enhancing responsiveness and accuracy in dynamic situations.

The Chunmoo MRLS has proven its capabilities through extensive deployment with the South Korean Army and Marine Corps, as well as through significant international interest. Poland’s recent decision to acquire over 200 units of the Chunmoo system underscores its appeal as a robust, adaptable, and scalable solution for modern defence needs. By integrating the launcher onto local platforms and customizing fire control systems, the Poland contract demonstrates how Chunmoo can be tailored to fit specific national defence strategies, enhancing operational integration and support.
