Honeywell has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) at the ongoing show, to explore sales opportunities for the former’s military airborne collision avoidance system (MILACAS) product for the Indonesian Air Force’s (IDAF) C130 avionics upgrade programme.

“Honeywell prides itself at being able to provide solutions that reduce maintenance costs and enable safer military flight formations, with the MILACAS allowing for a plug-and-play installation without any need for major aircraft modifications.” Sathesh Ramiah, Vice President Asia Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace, Defense & Space, said, “We are thrilled to partner with PTDI once again, and believe that this partnership will greatly benefit IDAF’s upgrade program. Honeywell’s vast experience with avionics, coupled with PDTI’s regional presence, will further strengthen IDAF’s mission readiness and capabilities.”

Gita Amperiawan, President Director of PDTI, said, “Even after six decades of production, the C-130 is still a mainstay of more than 60 air forces around the world. Honeywell and its partners like us have kept the legacy aircraft relevant by adding capabilities to enhance safety, efficiency and mission-effectiveness. Our local presence in Indonesia and longstanding, close relationship with Honeywell will ensure world-class in-service and support to the Indonesian Air Force.”

Honeywell ‘sMILACAS is a traffic alert collision avoidance system designed for better range and quality of surveillance broadcast on military aircraft. It provides up to two times better surveillance range than enhanced traffic alert collision avoidance system (ETCAS), significantly reducing the risk of collision while meeting mandates for civilian airspace access.

Honeywell’s latest MILACAS utilises improved interrogation methods and Hybrid Surveillance (Automatic Dependant Surveillance Broadcast – ADS-B). MILACAS surveillance range is 100 nm for 360° azimuth. The system is approved by civil and military frequency management organisations, including the U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration for installation on all military aircraft. In addition to the increased range, MILACAS provides the same functions that have made ETCAS the largest selling military TCAS product in the world.

The MILACAS is designed to be direct replacement of the TPA-81A. Based on TPA-100, Honeywell’s new generation TCAS line, the MILACAS uses the identical hardware platform and maintains all the civil ACAS II performance requirements as well as the additional military-unique features.
