Huge Interest in Barrett MK22 Snipers

Our Bureau - : Nov 2, 2022 - : 12:07 am

Barrett Firearms Manufacturing is showcasing its precision weapons as it strives to strengthen its presence in the Middle East and countries in North Africa.

The Multi-role Adaptive Design (MRAD) MK22 is evoking considerable interest from the visiting delegations. The sniper rifle is being highlighted following the recent U.S. acquisition of the weapon to replace several currently fielded sniper rifles within its military.

The MK22 defines a new class of long-range rifles by providing even greater capability within the MRAD rifle platform. The multi-caliber bolt-action sniper rifle converts between 7.62x51mm, .300 Norma Magnum and .338 Norma Magnum chamberings. It enables operators to easily fit their caliber/round to mission.

With unfailing precision and Sub-MOA performance, the sniper rifle adapts to a variety of user needs by converting between 7.62 x 51mm, 300 NM and 338 NM calibers. The aluminum chassis features a folding stock with adjustable length of pull and cheek piece, M-LOK attachment system, 10 mil rail, and suppressor capable muzzle brake, a company official said.

The U.S. Army recently awarded a US$49.9 million five-year contract to Barrett Firearms Manufacturing to acquire the MK22 MRAD rifle as the Army’s new sniper weapon system.

The Army will procure approximately 2,800 MK22 rifles from Barrett, the current maker of the Army’s M107 .50 Caliber Long Range Sniper Rifle.
The MK22 is part of the Army’s Precision Sniper Rifle (PSR) Program, which also includes the Leupold & Stevens (Beaverton, OR) Mark 5 HD scope and a sniper accessory kit.

Army snipers will be able to conduct a barrel change and select calibers based on their mission operating environment.

“We are pleased to have passed all preliminary program requirements and to now begin delivery of the MK22 rifle system to the Army soldiers.” said Joel Miller, Barrett’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

The PSR program will allow the Army an extreme range weapon systems that is lighter than current sniper rifles and includes features that will mask the sniper signature for improved survivability.

The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM or SOCOM) had previously awarded a contract to Barrett to purchase the MRAD as part of their Advanced Sniper Rifle (ASR) program.

The Mk22 will replace all legacy M40A6 and Mk13 Mod 7 rifles, reducing the sniper rifle inventory from four to three, said Infantry Weapons Program Manager Nick Berger. The option provided by the Mk22 to switch barrels will give Marines the ability to configure the rifle to fire either the .338 Norma Magnum or .300 NM caliber rounds.
