The 13th edition of IMDEX Asia is reiterating its standing as the one the preeminent maritime trade show in the region and returns after a four year hiatus.
Growing maritime defence spending in the region has resulted in robust international participation. Speaking at the pre-event press conference Leck Chet Lam, Managing Director, Experia Events Pte Ltd, organiser of IMDEX Asia 2023 said the expanded presence of a diverse range of participating companies and country pavilions underscored IMDEX Asia’s position as the leading platform for the global naval and maritime defence industry. “With defence spending on a strong upward trajectory over the last five years, opportunities abound in the naval and maritime defence industry.”
Lam said that over 250 companies were participating at the show, as compared to 230 in the last edition. Lam said that he expects over 11,000 delegates from more than 60 countries/regions to visit the show.
Growing Presence
The USA, Italy and Denmark are participating with country pavilions for the first time at the show and Australia returns to IMDEX Asia after a 10-year gap. Singapore has the largest country pavilion with 15 exhibitors spanning naval and special forces equipment, engines and digital systems. France, Israel and the Netherlands also have country pavilions.
Companies participating for the first time at IMDEX are Abu Dhabi Ship Building, Bell, GE Power Conversion, Kongsberg Maritime, Saildrone and Siemens Energy, while Damen Naval, Elbit Systems, Fincantieri, Israel Aerospace Industries, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, Rheinmetall Defence, ST Engineering, Thales, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, Wartsila etc, are all returning exhibitors.
22 warships from over 13 countries will also be present at the show, including first time participants, the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency’s coast guard vessel – KN Pulau Nipah and Italy’s ITS Francesco Morosini.
IMSC A Major Draw
The 8th edition of the International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) will feature participation from over 450 attendees from the naval defence sector. ‘Threats in the maritime domain are often transnational in nature and will require the collective effort of countries, navies and maritime agencies to tackle. In this regard, maritime enforcement agencies play an important role in ensuring maritime security,’ said Colonel Ng Yen Meng, Republic of Singapore Navy, Co-Chairman for IMDEX Asia 2023. There will also be a special panel to facilitate discussion amongst maritime enforcement agencies on how they can cooperate and collaborate with one another to better strengthen maritime security to ensure safe and secure seas for all.
